Web2/Week 2 (Exploring Bebo, Myspace & Facebook)

I've been exploring these three sites this week and had already set up a Facebook previous to this programme, so I set up a Bebo site for myself. Here is a link of my favourite singer Lawrence Arabia... I really love the song "Apple Pie Bed" there is a video of it playing the music channels at the moment and you can view it here as well:

Lawrence sounds alot like John Lennon (fantastic harmony singing!) and classic 70's early 80's rock bands. He is from NZ and won an Apra award for songwriting last year.
Out of the 3 sites I really liked Facebook but visually Myspace is better as you can personalise your page and create your own backgrounds etc.
I haven't explored Bebo that much and found this site confusing I'm still getting used to it, I was surprised to learn that I could connect my facebook acount to bebo.
These sites are a great way to advertise library events and collections and you can reach a wide demographic using all three of them. You can create "events" on both facebook and myspace and personally invite all your "friends" so the more you have the better.
On facebook you can also discuss what books you've been reading and you can write reviews about them, this is another way in which the library could promote it's collections.

#8 (Week 3) Play around with Image Generators

I've never used these image generators before and often wondered how people who sent you funny things by email did it, now I know!

These websites are a great way to make e-cards, and they also look good when printed on paper so I could use them for book displays. I really loved this beach image and found it on a site called "Letter James" The site has alot of image catagories that you can explore and I loved playing around with them. Here is the link...

Gardening...

I have been doing lots of gardening this week. I have a new house and have never had a garden before so I got several books out of the library on gardening (especially books that have the words "easy" in the title). I've been trying to keep those pesky weeds down to a minimum and also maintaining the garden edges, because they get overgrown by unsightly grass tentacles! There is also a jasmine bush that needs constant pruning as it consumes every single plant it comes into contact with. The library books have been extremely helpful to have around.

Gardening is becoming a less daunting task the more I read up about it and I can use this experience in my job by recommending some of the gardeining books to our library patrons. I was amazed to learn that by merely hanging a few old CDs from fruit trees that birds will not land on them as they hate things that shine. So far it seems to have worked and perhaps there will be some nice fruit to harvest in a few months!
